Alessandra Barassi (M.D) who is the author of the research study commented that when a man has low vitamin D levels it tends to increase the production of superoxide ions which are free radicals.

The superoxide ions tend to reduce nitric oxide levels in the body. And the thing is that nitric oxide is a substance that helps blood vessels in moving blood in the body.

So, when you are stimulated sexually, this nitric oxide assists the blood vessels to relax and this increases blood flow to the penis which results in an erection – this is how it normally goes.

However, when a man does not have adequate amounts of nitric acid, his blood vessels do NOT relax well enough to increase the flow of blood to the penis to result in an erection.
