I just found out about a certain research study that I think every man that wants to have children either now or in the future needs to pay attention to.
There was a research study that was done in Denmark and published way back in April 2010 and it found out that men who consumed 1 litre or more of cola drink (e.g. Big Cola, Coca Cola, Pepsi etc) each day have on average 30% lesser sperm count than the men who don’t drink cola drinks on a daily basis.
If you think that because semen contains millions of sperm and 30% decrease should not be a big deal and not affect anything… you are wrong! First of all the WHO (World Health Organization) reports that men who have lesser sperm counts have a very high risk of being infertile and not being able to get a female pregnant.
I am sure you may be thinking that it is the caffeine that is included in cola drinks that is the cause… no!
The study researchers tested coffee consumption to see if it has the same results and it did NOT affect sperm count. And remember coffee contains more caffeine than cola drinks.
It means that caffeine is not the cause of the reduced sperm count – it means that it was the other ingredients in cola drinks that are to blame.
And if you have doubts about the credibility of the study, you should know that 2500 men took part in the research study and the results were published in a journal, the American Journal of Epidemiology.
The men who were regular drinkers of 1 litre or more of cola drinks were found out to have an average of 35 million sperm per millilitre. This is below the 50 million sperm per millilitre than the men who don’t drink that much cola drinks were reported to have.
If you want to have a child (children) now or in the future, then it is in your best interest to severely limit you consumption of cola drinks.
