According to the results of a scientific study, erectile dysfunction could actually become deadly if you don’t go for a complete health checkup to address the cause of the problem.
So, if you have started having problems getting an erection or maintaining an erection, a University of Mississippi study has revealed that men with erectile dysfunction have 70 percent increased risks of premature death.
Going by what the study’s lead researcher (Tobias Köhler, M.D.) said: because the most common cause of erectile dysfunction is poor cardiovascular health. So, men with erectile dysfunction have more to worry than their erections.
If you are struggling with getting or maintaining an erection, it is likely to be a symptom of a bigger problem with is cardiovascular and heart problems.
Most men suffering from erectile dysfunction due to poor cardiovascular health usually end up having to deal with life threatening problems such as heart attack or stroke within 10 years from the time that the erection problems start – this is according to Dr. Köhler who is the lead author of the study.
Based on the anatomy of the human body, the blood vessels supplying blood to the penis is so small (about 1 – 2 millimetres in diameter), this is why it is easy for them to get blocked by plaque if you are not proactively keeping your cardiovascular system healthy. Things like regular exercise, a healthy diet and not smoking help a great deal.
The instance plaque starts to build up in the blood vessels; your penis is going to be among the first body part that shows the sign since it is easy for the blood vessels in the penis to get blocked.
It is the blockage in the penis that causes the difficulty for a man to get an erection or maintain an erection during sexual intercourse.
Gradually as the plaque becomes bigger, it begins to affect the other bigger vessels in the body like the ones that are connected to the heart. It is this scenario that results in stroke, heart attack and sudden death.
It is very important that if you have started experiencing erectile dysfunction, you immediately visit a doctor and get a complete health check up. Erection problems are always a warning sign that there is a problem in your cardiovascular system that should be treated early.
Once you find out that you have been experiencing erection troubles (either you have troubles getting an erection or you find it difficult maintain an erection during sex) for up to 2 months, you need to see a doctor as quick as possible.
You don’t have to be shy about visiting a doctor because of your erection problem… it is a doctor’s job to be discreet. And don’t go the route of consuming herbal concoctions to deal with your erection problems or to strengthen your erections.
If your doctor discovers that blocked blood vessels in your penis is the cause of your erectile dysfunction, asides from prescription meds, you still have to start following a healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise so that you can slowly get rid of the plaque.
And if you don’t want till wait till the plaque has reduced considerably before you have sexual intercourse, your doctor could prescribe erectile dysfunction meds to help you still have sex while the plaque gradually disappears.
